The Lord’s Supper - Holy Communion
At Saint Mary Evangelical Lutheran Church

Guests desiring to commune with us for the first time are
asked to first speak with the pastor prior to the start of
our worship services. Saint Mary Evangelical Lutheran Church
follows the historic practice of Close/Closed Communion.
This practice is prompted by love, both for God’s Word and
for God’s people. It recognizes the Holy Scripture’s
teaching that doctrinal unity is fundamental to the common
reception of the Lord’s Supper. It does not deny that
members of other Christian denominations are Christians.
Instead, this historic practice accepts and recognizes the
Holy Scripture’s teaching that doctrinal unity is basic to
the common understanding and reception of the Lord’s Supper.
Saint Mary Evangelical Lutheran Church also retains the
historic Christian practice of celebrating Holy Communion
each Sunday.
We believe, teach and confess the doctrine of
“Real Presence.” That is, in the Lord’s Supper, we confess
that in, with, and under the bread and the wine, we receive
the true Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ given for
the forgiveness of our sins. Those communing at our altar
confess a unity in this teaching, and a unity in the
doctrine of the historic Evangelical Lutheran Church
as taught in the Lutheran Confessions.
Even if our guests will not be communing with us, our
guests, both children and adults are invited to approach the
altar to receive a blessing during the distribution of Holy
Communion.
All guests are invited to attend Bible classes following our
Sunday Worship Services. Additional informational,
membership and confirmation classes will be scheduled for
those desiring to learn more about the faith, doctrine,
life and practice of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
